National Veterans Champions

Lothian veterans performed very successfully at the National Veterans Championships held at the Cockburn Centre on 4th/5th November. In the over 45 age group, Colin Campbell retained his mens singles title and was runner up in the mens doubles with Jon Doran (Glasgow) and mixed with Robin Huthwaite (Stonehaven). In the over 50 age group, Colin’s brother Ian produced one of the results of the weekend by beating former Lothian player Leon Douglas in the group stage, before going on to win the final of the over 50 mens singles.

Christine Black was a double mixed winner, winning the over 45 mixed event with Dan Travers and the over 50 event with Leon Douglas. Colin Hepburn also won the over 60 mens singles, staging an impressive comeback in the final set to win a nail biting final. In the over 50 mens doubles, Ian Hockey and Arthur Campbell produced a terrific performance to reach the final of the mens doubles and in the over 50 womens doubles Alison Barclay reached the final with Lorraine Bennet before losing out to Julia Campbell (another former Lothian player) and Margaret Gibson.
