Yonex East of Scotland Junior Championships 2015

Prizewinners East JuniorSpectators witnessed some excellent badminton at the Yonex East of Scotland Junior Championships throughout both days of the tournament at Meadowbank Sports Centre, culminating in some highly competitive and high quality finals on Sunday afternoon.

Jodie Black was the only triple winner, with a clean sweep in the under 13 age group. There were two titles for the following players; Ian Campbell (Under 13 age group), Alice Campbell and Erin Waddell (Under 15 age group), Sarah Sidebottom & Ciara Torrance (Under 17 age group) and Christopher Grimley (Under 19 age group),

Lothian players featured particularly prominently in the Under 17 age group where Calum Atterbury was successful in the boys’ doubles, Glen Lewington won the mixed doubles. Rachel Cameron reached the final of the girls’ singles and with fellow Lothian player Rachel Andrew, reached the final of the girls doubles, losing out in the closest of the afternoon’s finals by 27-25 in the final game.

We were delighted to welcome Bill Hogg, Promotions Executive from Yonex UK, to present the prizes. Tournament Referee, Ian Campbell expressed his sincere thanks to Yonex, ably supported by Gannon Sports, who have now sponsored this event for 15 years, to the members of Lothian Badminton Group and the Court Officials of BADMINTONscotland for their assistance during the event, as well as to the players for the high standard of play and the extremely high level of sportsmanship.

The Moira Skene trophy was presented to the Lothian player who was considered to have produced the most meritorious performances on the weekend of the East Junior Championships. This year, the award went to Rachel Cameron.
