Success at the Anglo Scottish U-12 Team Event

Anglo Scottish U-12 Team Event, Inverclyde National Sports Centre- 25/26 May 2019

The under 12 Lothian team travelled to Inverclyde for the annual Anglo-Scottish Event shield, with 8 teams taking part in the 2 day event.  Saturday’s fixtures saw some great performances from the outset, and impressive wins against Cumbria, Borders, Highland and Northumberland.

The team were really up for the challenge on Sunday, with morning victories over West and Clyde, leaving again the familiar “winner takes all” shoot out against a very talented Yorkshire team.  A slight “tweak” in our formation for this final match proved to be beneficial, and demonstrated that anyone in the team could perform well in any of the singles, level or mixed doubles formats that we had been working on at Squad training.  We witnessed some incredible play throughout the team- with nothing left out on the court, resulting in a deserved 7-3 win, taking the trophy last won in 2017, back home to the East.

The coaches, Mahlen, Sethu and Arlene were very proud of the team.  Another great trip for the squad, with excellent behaviour and a true team supportive spirit on show.

Many thanks to Mr and Mrs Robert Gow and Sandra Downie for organising the event, all our opponents for some great games, Inverclyde for hosting, and to the parents who assisted in the travel arrangements and supported the team.  Finally, a big shout out to Sethu Vijayakumar for stepping in and helping out in the coaching team over the weekend.
